Rawwater product being used to seal metal pipes

M3Spray

Rapid sealing for flowing leaks

M3Spray is a molten alloy spray designed to seal cracks, pinholes and defects in areas that are difficult to reach or processes which are hard to shutdown. M3Spray uses low melting point alloys that solidify on contact, creating a strong, reversible seal while your system stays online.

Low temperature, high control

The spray head delivers a controlled stream of molten alloy driven by kinetic energy. As the alloy meets the leak site it cools and solidifies, closing off positive or negative pressure leaks in seconds. Typical operating temperatures are below 150 degrees C, which helps protect surrounding materials and coatings. When permanent works or decommissioning are needed, the alloy can be reheated and removed.

Metal seals that do not close off future options

M3Spray creates a solid metal seal, but it is not a permanent modification. The alloy can be reheated and removed, so equipment can still be inspected, overhauled or replaced later. You get rapid leak recovery now and the freedom to make longer term decisions on your own timetable.

  • Alloy can be reheated and safely removed
  • Original component can be accessed and inspected
  • Supports long term replacement and decommissioning plans

Handheld M3Spray for fast in service repair

For quick, reactive and day to day maintenance, M3Spray is being developed into a compact handheld unit. The tool uses the same bismuth alloys, material compatibility and reversibility as full M3Spray systems, but in a simplified format that operators can pick up, heat up and use within minutes.

  • Leak sealing with bismuth alloys, using a handheld, button operated tool
  • Ready to use in a matter of minutes, reload with solid alloy and be ready to seal again
  • Simple controls and training, designed for use by site teams
  • Battery powered with positioning and integrated controls
  • Creates reversible metal seals for temporary or longer term repairs

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to common questions about M3Spray and how we work with your team.

  • What surface preparation is required before using M3Spray?

M3Spray requires minimal surface preparation compared to other sealing techniques. Usually, removing dust and dirt is enough, though some applications may benefit from a mild chemical preparation depending on the scenario.

  • Can M3Spray seal leaks while the system is still flowing?

Yes. One of the key advantages of M3Spray is the ability to seal live leaks, even while the system is operational. This allows for leak repairs without shutting down the equipment, which saves time and reduces operational disruption.

  • How is overspray controlled during M3Spray deployments?

Controlling overspray is essential for safety and precision. For every deployment, we implement suitable containment measures. We are also developing flexible solutions that could be used in a range of scenarios. Reach out to discuss further.

  • Will the liquid alloy from the M3Spray enter my system?

If your system is safety critical, we can carry out testing to make sure the spray does not contaminate the system. For example, our experience with SF6 gas sealing shows we can provide a safe, non-intrusive repair.

  • What other scenarios or applications can M3Spray be used for?

M3 Spray is highly versatile. It can be used for a range of leaks, predominantly liquid, both for emergency response and planned maintenance. If you have a leak, talk to us! We can assess your system and determine the most effective deployment method.

  • Is M3Spray reversible or reusable?

Yes! M3Spray can be reversed and even reused. This is standard practice at our facility, and we’re working on solutions to allow customers to reuse the spray safely in their own operations.

  • What operational temperatures can M3Spray be used in?

Currently, M3 Spray is suitable for use in temperatures up to 65°C. We have ideas how to extend its capability to higher temperatures, which could allow for applications like steam. If you have a requirements for higher temperatures get in touch!
