RW Seals is proud to announce that it has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Free Electrons 2026 programme, the world’s largest energy-focused open innovation platform. Chosen from 1,124 applicants worldwide, RW Seals has secured a place in the final cohort of just 15 companies, recognising its innovative approach to asset optimisation, asset availability, and life extension through impactful leak repair.

RW Seals has been selected within the programme’s Asset Optimisation category, where leading energy utilities collaborate with innovative technology companies to address some of the sector’s most pressing operational challenges. The programme brings together major global utilities and high-potential clean energy innovators to accelerate solutions that support the energy transition while improving the performance and resilience of existing infrastructure.

At the heart of RW Seals’ proposition is a simple but powerful belief: all leaks are waste. Leaks not only create environmental and operational risks, they also reduce asset availability, shorten equipment life, increase maintenance costs, and can ultimately lead to premature asset replacement. By enabling operators to repair leaks with minimal asset impact, RW Seals helps utilities maximise the value of existing infrastructure while improving network reliability and sustainability

The company’s proprietary M3 leak sealing technology has been developed to repair active leaks without the extensive outage, draining and component replacement activities traditionally required. Unlike conventional approaches, RW Seals’ solution is designed to seal leaks while assets remain operational, helping operators maintain availability, reduce disruption, minimise CAPEX expenditure and avoid unnecessary revenue loss associated with outages.

RW Seals’ technology has already demonstrated significant impact within the energy sector in the UK. To date, deployments have prevented more than 15,000 tCO₂e emissions from reaching the atmosphere through the repair of leaking assets, particularly those containing SF6, one of the industry’s most potent greenhouse gases. The company has also successfully demonstrated its technology on other leak types, including transformer oil applications, highlighting the wider opportunity to extend the operational life of critical energy infrastructure.

Kat Lennox, Managing Director of RW Seals, said:

“Being selected as a Free Electrons finalist is tremendous recognition of the work our team has done to develop practical, scalable solutions for the energy industry. To be selected among the final 15 companies from more than 1,100 applicants demonstrates both the value of our technology and the growing importance of asset life extension across the sector.

As utilities face increasing pressure to deliver reliable, affordable and sustainable energy, every additional year of asset life matters. Our focus is on helping operators keep critical infrastructure in service for longer, reduce environmental impact, avoid unnecessary replacement costs and maintain asset availability through effective leak repair.”

Kat Lennox, Managing Director of RW Seals

As part of the Free Electrons programme, RW Seals will work directly with some of the world’s leading energy utilities to explore pilot opportunities, validate new applications and further develop solutions capable of delivering impact at scale across the global energy sector. The company is particularly interested in understanding additional or future leak challenges faced by utilities to maximise operational, financial and environmental benefits.

With electricity networks under increasing pressure to support decarbonisation, electrification and growing demand, extending the life of existing assets is becoming an increasingly important part of the energy transition. RW Seals believes innovative leak repair technologies can play a critical role in reducing waste, improving asset performance and ensuring valuable industry resources remain focused on enabling new connections and future infrastructure rather than replacing assets that can continue to deliver value.
