In engineering, confidence doesn’t come from claims – it comes from proof.
That was the focus of our recent customer event, bringing together key contacts from the energy transmission and nuclear industries across the UK and Japan. The purpose was simple: share information openly to accelerate adoption, learn across project boundaries and challenge ourselves on what still needs to be demonstrated.
The morning session centred on from past to present – sharing projects and testing completed on M3 – our range of low-melting-point, reversible bismuth-based alloy seals for industrial leak and defect repair.
We shared what we’ve tested and where it’s been used.
M3 is typically deployed below 150°C, allowing in-service application with zero curing time. The alloy’s low viscosity means even small cracks can be sealed. The solid alloy is loaded into our equipment, melted in a controlled way and applied within defined temperature and pressure parameters.
The afternoon session was deliberately more challenging – from present to the future. We asked:
- What barriers still prevent adoption?
- What testing have we not done that would be critical for your sector?
- Where could this technology be applied that we haven’t considered?
Cross-sector discussion was particularly valuable. Hearing how similar constraints appear in different environments often highlights opportunities that don’t show up within a single project.
The feedback afterwards was direct and appreciated with all attendees finding the session valuable against the original intent:
RW is very flexible and easy to work with.
RW’s solutions are simple, cost effective and extremely well underpinned… staff have considerable experience that gives confidence that solutions will be found.
RW are very dynamic compared to big suppliers.
For us, events like this aren’t about promotion. They are about scrutiny, discussion and improvement. If there are barriers to adoption, we want to understand them. If additional evidence is required, we will generate it.
Good engineering isn’t about presenting finished answers.
It’s about building confidence through evidence – and being prepared to have the hard conversations.
With thanks to our collaborators Createc for supporting with a robotic guest appearance.
With thanks to our customers NGET, SL/NDA and TEPCO/MUS for agreeing projects could be shared during the event in the spirit of acceleration of adoption.
