Handheld M3Spray for in service leak sealing

The handheld M3Spray unit brings M3 into a simple tool that site teams can use to seal leaks quickly on live assets. The tool uses the same bismuth alloys, material compatibility and reversibility as full M3Spray systems, but in a simplified format that operators can pick up, heat up and use within minutes.

The handheld unit takes that same M3Spray approach and packages it into a device that can be carried, heated and deployed by a trained user for rapid in service repairs.

Simple to use, fast to deploy

Different leak scenarios need different tools. We are developing this mobile, hand held leak sealing tool targeting rapid response by your site teams, trained by us.

Leak sealing using bismuth alloys and the proven M3 process

Ready to operate in about 10 minutes from cold

Reload with solid alloy and be ready to seal again in a matter of minutes

Same alloys, material compatibility and reversibility as existing M3 solutions

Make leak sealing a routine intervention

The handheld unit is designed so that leak sealing can become a rapid response or planned task for site teams. Simple controls and fast turnaround times mean leaks can be addressed early, before they grow into larger problems that shorten asset life.

  • Mobile equipment for hard to access areas
  • Minimal disruption to operations compared with draining, degassing or replacement
  • Easy to train operators or maintenance teams
  • Supports plant life extension and emissions reduction goals by tackling leaks sooner

Load, heat, aim, seal

We listened to what our customers needed and are developing this flexible, quick and easy to use equipment.

01

Load the alloy

Solid alloy is loaded into the handheld unit through the reload cap.

02

Heat and prepare

The unit brings the alloy to operating temperature and is typically ready to use in about 10 minutes.

03

Position the tool

The operator uses the laser positioning system to support aim at the defect or leak site, working within the agreed safety envelope.

Proof in Practice

M3 technologies have been trialled and deployed with leading utilities, moving from innovation projects into live operations.

Case studies from National Grid, and industrial clients show how M3 reduces leaks, avoids outages and supports net zero goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers to common questions about M3, SF6 sealing and how we work with your team.

Talk to our Team
  • What types of leaks can M3 technology seal?

The prototype hand held M3 technology is in development, and targeting being suitable for gas and liquid leaks on a range of leaks from small-bore pipework, joints, flanges and complex assemblies. It can be applied to a range of materials, including metals, plastics and concrete, subject to an initial technical assessment.

  • Can M3 be applied while equipment is still in service?

Yes. M3 can be applied to flowing leaks while equipment remains in service, helping to avoid draining systems or interrupting operations. Suitability depends on the asset, operating conditions and site requirements.

  • Is the M3 seal permanent or reversible?

M3 forms a robust seal but remains fully reversible. The alloy can be removed by controlled reheating, allowing access to the original equipment for future maintenance, repair or replacement.

  • How do you make sure the numbers and results stack up?

We assess the technical and commercial case for each project using site information, engineering data and, where required, representative testing. The proposed solution and expected benefits are reviewed with the customer before work begins.

  • Who actually does the work on site?

M3 is applied by trained specialists using purpose-designed equipment and controlled application procedures. The work is planned in coordination with the customer’s engineering, operations and site-safety teams. In the future, we hope to enable customer to seal their own leaks.

  • How do we start about a potential project?

Contact us with details of the asset and leak, including photographs, dimensions, operating pressure and temperature, the leaking medium and any access restrictions. Our team will review the information, assess suitability and recommend the next steps.
